SEATTLE CITY COUNCILMEMBER ANDREW LEWIS ANNOUNCES RE-ELECTION CAMPAIGN

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE JANUARY 17, 2023

SEATTLE — Today, Seattle City Councilmember Andrew Lewis announced that he will be running for re-election to the Seattle City Council.

“I am running for re-election to the Seattle City Council because I believe in the power of people to create change through shared action and collective voice,” said Lewis. “I am proud of the work I have done in my first term and look forward to continuing to work on behalf of the people of District 7.”

In his first term, Councilmember Lewis championed legislation to reduce the cost of permanent supportive housing, protect and expand our parks and green spaces, bring ranked choice voting to Seattle, and fund the successful outreach and enhanced shelter program JustCARE.

The key to Councilmember Lewis’ success has been his ability to build coalitions of diverse stakeholders to solve problems, which is reflected in his early support from civic leaders across Seattle’s political spectrum:

Jon Scholes, Downtown Seattle Association President

“Councilmember Lewis is the epitome of what a district-elected representative should be - thoughtful, responsive, and a consistent advocate for Downtown and all District 7 neighborhoods.

Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal

“Councilmember Lewis is a leader in the fight for a more just, equitable, and stronger Seattle. His proven track record in championing progressive policy and delivering for the working people of our city is why I am proud to strongly endorse him for re-election.”

Lisa Nitze, Downtown Civic Leader

"Councilmember Lewis has been a critical partner in our efforts for Downtown recovery by championing innovative new public safety initiatives like JustCARE and leading on a new vision for Third Avenue. We are proud to support him for another term."

Shemona Moreno, Climate Organizer

“Climate change is the biggest crisis we face. Now more than ever we need bold action to roll back emissions and build community resilience to survive its most painful impacts. Councilmember Lewis worked with climate organizations to make Parks and Recreation Community Centers climate resiliency hubs to serve as a place of refuge during extreme heat and smoke events. This is the leadership we need to face the climate crisis head on.”

Councilmember Lewis’ top priorities for the next four years are increasing access to affordable housing, addressing homelessness, combating climate change, and keeping everyone in our community safe.

“I am committed to ensuring that everyone in Seattle has access to the resources and opportunities they need to thrive,” said Lewis. “I am excited to continue to work with the people of Seattle to build a city where all of us can reach our full potential.”
